Short biography

Devis Bianchini has been Full Professor in Computer Science since 2019 at the Department of Information Engineering, University of Brescia. He has been Associate Professor from 2015 to 2019 and Assistant Professor from 2005 to 2015 at the same Department. From 2002 to 2005 he carried out research and teaching activities as a PhD student in the field of database and Information System technologies. He received a Master Degree in Electronics Engineering in 2002 and a PhD in Information Engineering in 2005 at the University of Brescia. 

Main research interests are focused on models and tools for Web Information System (WIS) design, service-oriented architectures, resource discovery enabled through techniques, tools and theoretical foundations of the Semantic Web. 

Specific research topics are the following: 

• • use of ontologies for systems integration; 

  • e-service modeling;

  • semantics-enabled Web Service matchmaking;

  • semantics-enabled Web Service matchmaking in P2P networks;

  • applications based on service-oriented architectures enriched with semantic annotations;

  • service-based collaborative platforms for enterprises;

  • service identification for business process re-engineering;

  • Web services and Linked Data;

  • intelligent selection of semantically annotated Web APIs to support the automatic composition of mashups;

  • intelligent selection of Web APIs based on the collective intelligence in their use within existing mashups;

  • mashups and Enterprise 2.0;

  • Web APIs, mashups and Linked Data;

  • methods and techniques for the management and exploration of Big&Open Data.

These topics have been studied in national and international research projects. In the last years, Devis Bianchini has been involved in several Industry 4.0 and Smart Cities industrial projects as principal investigator or coordinator of the research unit of Brescia. Among them, the "Smart Manufacturing 2020" project (funded as part of the National Cluster "Smart Factory", 2014-2018), the "BSL Brescia Smart Living" project (funded in the Smart Cities and Communications and Social Innovation initiative, MIUR, 2015-2018), the "ODE: Open Data Exploration" project (co-funded in collaboration with Regione Lombardia, ex art. 15 L.N. 241/1990, 2016-2018), the "Smart4CPPS: Smart Solutions for Cyber Physical Production Systems" industrial project (funded by Regione Lombardia, POR FESR 2014-2020, 2017-2020), the "FISVAL: Filiera Integrata e Sostenibile per la produzione di VALvole Smart (Integrated and Sustainable Production Line for Smart Valves)" industrial project (funded by Regione Lombardia, POR FESR 2014-2020, 2020-2021). Research results have been published on more than 130 national and international conference proceedings, international journals and book chapters.

He is referee for national and international conferences and for international journals.
